As a contrast to Emperor Qin, this page shifts from physical immortality to the modern desire to create something that endures. Its title was inspired by Hamilton, in which Alexander Hamilton is deeply concerned with how history will remember him. The composition is divided into five parts: a central Peking opera mask, surrounded by blue, green, yellow, and red sections featuring Chinese cultural heritage: cloisonné, porcelain, fireworks, kites, architecture, paper-cutting, lanterns, and Chinese knots. I taught myself several handcraft techniques, allowing materials to extend irregularly beyond the page. Just like how everyone can wear this heavily layered mask (over ten), “immortality” may often belong to groups of individuals, crafts, traditions, communities, and shared cultural memory.
